Hi Sandra,

You all may be poppin aspirin before you get thru this...if you can simplify
it, be my guest!

The Shelby Exchange newsletter is in the mail....How do you explain the
"Twilight Zone"? One of the questions I posed-What about a look a like
contest? The Gov's direct descendants don't seem to resemble him--but some
of the Shelby's not yet connected, sure do! [Like your father, Sandra]
I'd like to place some of these photo's that are starting to crop up- in the
newsletter...It just may be a way proving connections..

The only early Shelby painting I know of was Gov Isaac Shelby..We probably
wouldn't have him had he not been Gov.

Do some comparing with your photo's with
Isaac...<http://www.trolinger.com/david/shelby/shelby.htm>

Re connections...You just asked the $64,000 question!

.I have copies of letters written by I[U]rvin's granddaughter, Miss Grace
Shelby, that she wrote to Cass K Shelby during the 1950s..she had Irvin's
Bible records-He names his parents as Evan and Lieudicia[sic] Shelby-said it
was spelled that way in the Bible. [apparently there is no mention of his
first family]

Grace stated "My grandfather Urvin's Polk Shelby's oldest son James, son of
1st wife, went to Arkansas, but don't know where, with his sister Elizabeth,
also by first wife and their grandmother Mary or Polly Jordan. The 1850 for
Montgomery Co, TN gives James age as 14, Elizabeth's as 12, living with Mary
Jordan, age 61."
Grace said she was the oldest of my generation living around here
(Nashville) I'll be 77 next Oct 12 1957..

Grace states "We do not know the name of Urvin's 1st wife, they had two
children-James and Elizabeth..about or shortly after 1850, Mary Jordan moved
with them to some place in Arkansas-I do not know the place. He's Irvin in
his Bible but changed the spelling to Urvin..He was born in NC, 13 Apr 1806..."
Grace is the daughter of Urvin Polk Shelby & 2nd wife, Patience H (Shelby)
[m. 26 Feb 1840, Montg Co] son William Isaac Shelby and his 2nd wife Asenath
Tyer. Grace Truman Shelby was born 12 Oct 1880. My father's first wife was
Fredonia Bryant married 18 Jan 1873. She died soon after their son Benjamin
Elmo Shelby was born on 19 Oct 1873..."

Grace goes on to say that one of Patience H. brothers was William H Shelby
who married Sarah Walker on 25 Apr 1844 Montg Co, TN..they lived just across
the line in Stewart Co, TN [The cemetery where they are buried is now on
Fort Campbell, KY Army Post]

Cass K Shelby died at the age of 94 in 1964. In 1975 Grace was writing to
Charles E Shelby, a desc of Gov Isaac Shelby's brother Moses Shelby..

Patience H Shelby was the daughter of Isaac Shelby b 1790 NC, d 6 Apr 1867
in Allen Co, KY; m. Mary Trammill(?) [Carol Peterson's line] Isaac's
parentage is unknown.
+++++++++++++
Sandra, the Charles you mention was the son of Alvin Grimes Shelby

Alvin Grimes, William, and James Larkin Shelby, were the sons of William
Shelby [b abt 1804 SC] and Martha Gentry. [m. 3 Dec 1821, Jefferson Co, AR]

William [parents unknown] and Martha's son William C, marries an Elizabeth....
1860 census for Jefferson Co, AR, Wm C age 22 & Elizabeth age 22, have in
their household, the above mentioned Mary Jordan, age 72 b SC.
++++++++++
I think the original question asked was-Are these Shelby's tied in with the
ones in Cleveland Co, AR??
