Hi Thomas!
Welcome to the list..Maybe you and Martha Mordecai can help each other..
You can also get directly in touch with Johnnie Johnson
mailto:PeaPicker2@aol.com She's working to get some documented order to the
Polk's..Especially Eleanor/Elinora and Capt John... Early researchers claim
she
was Bpt in 1730, the daughter of Evan SHELBY and Catherine MORGAN of
Cardiganshire, Wales...There is supposedly a baptismal record for this
Eleanora...but have not seen official record
There has been a lot of debate about this Eleanora and if she is the one who
married John POLK.
Johnnie M Johnson, in her book, REES AND MARY, p419, states:
"JMJ feels this is impossible; as she would have been 28 when she married
John who may be 19; they started their family in 1760 when she would have
been 30 and had children for 20 years...they were near Rees & Mary in the
Carolinas and in PA and on deeds; but no proof Rees & Mary had a daughter
Eleanor."
The church records [supposedly] show Elinora as a dau- The Eleanor who
married John POLK
will be placed as dau of Rees, until something else comes to light.
More questions than answers!
Judy
