Hi Tina,

Thanks for all of this! I really haven't tackled the SELBYs because they are
thicker than sandfleas- EVERYWHERE!! As to 'our' Phillip, he shows in the
records as "Selby Phillip" Phillip Selby" and was buried as Phillip SHELBY
in 1731, in Tregaron.

There are also a few original Tax rolls in Washington Co VA in [I think]
1781/82, for a Phillip Shelby-have not found anything further on him in that
county - The name is clear on the records. He could well be the father of
Samuel Shelby who married Susanna Zimmerlie.

According to what has [so far] been found in what church records we have in
Wales, the SHELBY name got its start in 1709-with a Jois SHELBY-have not
come across the name again in anything, but that is the way it is spelled on
the original record

We are most definitely not finished with Wales! There are still a lot we
don't know about Rees and Mary Shelby, despite Johnnie M Johnson's 500 pages
book on them! We still don't have the needed proof that Rees was a son of
Evan and Catherine- a grandson [Jef Shelby] of Ruby Jane Shelby, more
recently, said that her info was wrong on this, and that Rees was Evan's
brother, not a son. That Ruby got so excited over finding Evan, that she
stopped copying what she had found for Rees! Ruby had said as much to me in
her letters in 1977.
So, this too needs further checking..We do know [now] that the Rachel was
Baptised in 1721, and who married McFarland/Pindell, was the daughter of
REES not Evan and Catherine!

I suspect that somewhere between the time Ruby saw the original records at
the church in 1968, and the time that others; and Ron Shelby [abt 1999], saw
the records at the Library of Wales, something has gone missing. The
Baptismal record for Evan and Catherine (Morgan) Shelby's daughter Elenora
Bapt 1730 at St Caron's, is either now missing or was overlooked..

So these are the type 'stuff' we need to get clarified, if it is all
possible!

Need to throw in a word of caution here- Tina you have your listing marked
as SHELBYs in London marriages...But all show as SELBY..We can't assume at
this point, especially from printed data that these were actually
Shelby's...
Your FIRST listing of SHELBYs in London 1442, etc...was this from a printed
list posted by someone??? Would be fantastic to find the SHELBY name that
early, and, in London! Gotta stay open minded about this..with a grain of
doubt.

Good work Tina! Someday we may have the correct answer!

Judy

Judith,

You may have these, but wanted to send to you anyway. On the word doc. are
some more entries that I copied from the Library of Wales. I tried to do a
little research on each entry, but again I am not much for detail. The
other 2 can be opened using your browser window, as it is in HTML format. I
went to the origins.net website and found these. I guess the reason I went
in that direction was a thought that maybe the Selby clan had migrated
toward Wales from England based on some of the entries I found from the
Library. I hope you can connect the dots with what you have, coz to me it
feels like looking for a needle in a haystack!
Please let me know what you come up with!

Thanks

Tina Braska

Dear Judy,
I received the text of this letter, but not the attachments. So I don't know
what anyone is talking about. The same is true of the pictures. Would it be
possible to send out another letter and put the attachments on it. I think
that when you forward a letter they don't include any attachments that might
have been with it.

Many thanks for including me in this mailing.

Kay
