Shelby,
We have a Center for teaching and training in the principles behind self
development (those which are embodied in most traditional religions,
philosophies, and psychologies). Among other things, we take groups on
trips around the world to meet people from other environments and cultures
with the intent to encourage more harmonious interaction and help to develop
a sense of planetary citizenship. For these purposes we have a 501-c-3 for
a Church. Nevertheless, I offer genealogy classes and workshops to
encourage interest in the racial and cultural history, as well as, American
history; and to promote more positive family relationships We can "earmark"
funds for anything which supports our purpose. I don't have the "mission
statement" at my fingertips at the moment. I can get it in a day or so when
I go back to my office.
I imagine it would a bit more difficult to set up a memorial in another
country. I do know that costs in Great Britain are double what they are
here. I don't know how we would go about getting permission in Wales for
this venture. I guess your connections there would be able to help out. We
have a couple of cousins in Aberdare who might be willing to help in some
way.
I am also interested in setting up memorials here in this country for the
Shelbys, and other folks who contributed a great deal to America's
development, ... in particular those who played such a strong roll, but
never found a mythical place in our history. I believe if our children were
raised to understand the reality of how this country was developed and the
real price that was paid, there would be a greater appreciation for it. I
learned a great thing about George Washington in my studies. He did tell
lies, he was personally ambitious, and he didn't know what he was doing when
he started out, .... and, he rose above it all and became the best he could
be. That certainly makes me feel better. The task is not insurmountable.
Martha
