I do not have any info on your line of the family. In reviewing your inf=
o, it seems you have a lot of family based right there in Ohio.. check to=
see if there is a state Historical or Genealogical Library.. sometimes t=
here are even county ones. They have old census reports, state marriage =
& death certificates. Another web site I enjoy is www.genforum.com. you=
can go to specific forums by surname, counties, religions, etc. I spend=
a lot of time browsing for information. =20
A lot of research has been done on my line 5 generations ago & further ba=
ck, so I have been concentrating more on the last five generation. That =
takes me back to Rees & Mary. I am trying to verify as much of it as I c=
an before I put it on the internet. I have discovered there is a lot of =
misinformation out.. I want it to be as accurate as possible. =20
Good luck on you quest. It does require patience, but remember, there a =
lot of people out there to help. I have located a number of close family=
members (2nd & 3rd cousins) while on my search

I guess the subject is kinda vague & somewhat misleading, as I really don=
't have much family history to share. gotta admit, for most of my life, I=
wasn't really concerned about it. as I grow older, it seems, somehow, no=
t just more important, but very important, to find out about my roots, as=
these are the roots MY children will, one day, want to touch & know.
my name is robert earl shelby, b. 2 sept 1947, in cincinnati, oh.
my father was clifford charles (buck) shelby, sr. b. 7 jul 1909 or 1910, =
in cincinnati, d. 10 jun 1985 in monroe, oh.
my mother was lakiebird (mitchell) shelby, b. 10 oct 1921, in parkersburg=
wv. d. 9 jun 1985 in monroe oh. both of my parents are buried in arlingt=
on cemetary, mt healthy, oh.
my paternal grandparents were martin shelby & anna (karl) shelby. they bo=
th died during my early childhood, & I know little about either, except t=
hat they lived & died in cincinnati, & that my grandmother was either all=
or part indian. this was mentioned a number of times during my childhood=
, but I never bothered to nail down a complete story.
my maternal grandparents were isaac oda (sp) mitchell & cora (bush) mitch=
ell. they were married in wv prior, I believe, to WWI, & moved to cincinn=
ati in the very early 30's. Both lived their later years & died in maud, =
oh. I have no specific knowledge of dates or places of burial for any of =
my grandparents. although my mother was at least in contact with her sibl=
ings, my father, for reasons never made clear to me, rarely spoke to or s=
poke off his siblings. my mother's siblings, all born in wv before the de=
pression, & living in southwest oh after WWII, were james mitchell, earl =
mithell, junior arly mitchell & laura (mitchell) lavely. if she had other=
siblings, I'm not aware of them. I'm a good deal less certain of my fath=
er's siblings. these names I do know: virgil shelby, earl shelby, margere=
t shelby, hazel (shelby) fife & virginia shelby. all were born in cincinn=
ati prior to WWI, & lived their lives there. to the best of my knowledge,=
all of these have passed away, but I have no certain dates.
I had three brothers, all born in cincinnati.
lawrence edward shelby b. 22 aug 1946 d. ? nov 1996; clifford charles (ch=
uck) shelby, jr b. 14 may 1949; & joseph lee shelby b. 9 may 1954 d. ? oc=
t 2000 - for whatever reason, I cannot recall the exact dates of my broth=
ers deaths........
but, that is what I know of my family's history. I know I've tossed in a =
lot of stuff that may be meaningless, as well as left a lot of holes that=
may be critical, but I'm hoping some of what I've shared will strike a c=
hord with another member of the shelby family. feel free to contact me.
